Introducing Prizm Nail Wraps

Hey everyone, Ro here! What a whirlwind the past 5-1/2 months have been. I hope everyone is taking good care of themselves and each other - now more than ever.

The shop has been closed since mid-March and will remain closed until we get the green light to safely reopen for indoor services in Alameda County. Given the space limitations, questionable cleanliness with construction across the street, permits, and the fact that we work with gel polish (which can cure in the sun), we will not be offering outdoor services.

We have been doing what we can to keep our doors open during this shutdown - Vanessa has been selling her cuticle oils, press-on sets, and photo books and Miya has been selling her press-on sets and stained glass art. I’ve been working on something that I hope to continue even past the shutdown - nail wraps!

What are nail wraps? They are stickers made to cover your entire nail, or instant polish. They stay on better if sealed with top coat so you only need to wait for the top coat to dry. These have been around for a very long time. My first experience with nail wraps was from Avon about 15 years ago. I used them on my toes and I remember how fast and easy it was to apply.

I decided to create nail wraps as I wanted to be more inclusive. Press-ons are amazing but they aren’t for everyone. I mean, getting your nails done isn’t everyone’s cup of tea. But, I have clients, friends, and family that keep their nails short to match their lifestyle and even the “short” press-on nails aren’t short at all. Everyone should have access to nail art and the wraps can fit short to long lengths!

You might be thinking, “Well, who are you even getting your nails done for right now? We can’t go anywhere.” My answer to this will always be, “FOR YOURSELF”. I wasn’t lying when I said nail care is a form of self-care. When you look at your hands typing, against a beautiful nature backdrop during your walk, petting your fur babies, watching yourself talk with your hands in your Zoom meeting, or doing anything, really, it will make your day just a little more bright with a touch of nail art. For those of us that love getting our nails done - don’t you just feel amazing afterward? I definitely do, and I wanted to help others feel that same way by becoming a Nail Artist.

The nail wraps were created from original designs that I have done on actual clients in the past. I’m excited to be able to share my nail art with those outside of the SF Bay Area. These are great for when you are short on time, can’t make it to the salon, don’t have the patience to paint your own nails, or between switching to another set of press-ons (you know you didn’t just buy one set during this pandemic - I know I did!).

Prizm turned 2 years old today - yaaay! - so I thought it was an appropriate time to drop these nail wraps. And for the whole month of September, I will be donating a portion of nail wrap sales to Black Organizing Project, a Black member-led community organization working for racial, social, and economic justice through grassroots organizing and community-building in Oakland, California.

A video tutorial on how to apply the nail wraps is coming soon. In the meantime, you can check out the visual instructions below. For tips and more info, please visit the FAQ section of the website. The nail wraps are cool as is but perhaps you want to spend a little more time on your self-care ritual and get creative - there are lots of possibilities! I will be posting different looks that can be achieved with the wraps. Stay tuned!
